Here's the "Pirate Princess"--although her hat got lost at sea, her gold earring got buried with the rest of the treasure, and her scary Jack Sparrow-esque eye make-up faded. (This photo was taken after a fun day of Halloween parades and parties at school.)This was one of the more simple costumes I've made for Abby and it worked up really fast. She really loved the sparkly skull and bone fabric, although that stuff shed glitter all over my sewing machine. The only part of the costume she was hesitant about was the pirate puffy shirt. She was worried that she would look too much like a boy. I tried to explain to her that it's a pirate shirt and that she if was going to to be a pirate, she needed the right shirt. Every pirate knows this. But she reminded me that she is a "pirate princess" and then we had this confusing conversation on what that really means--a conflict of artistic vision, if you will. But it turned out okay, because once she tried it on, she loved it.

She double-dogged-doughnut-doctor-dared her dad to eat it, teeth and all. When he triple-dog-dared her to eat it, she said, "No, I won't take the chance."Happy Halloween!
