Because Halloween Is Coming . . .

Green Silk Gown

A pretty new green silk ballgown is now listed in the shop. It's the last of the silk ballgowns for awhile. It's time to start sewing for Halloween!

The New Girl

A new doll has come to earn her keep as a model for my shop. I've wanted a historical doll who can model outfits from a wide range of eras for awhile now. And I was pretty close to buying Marie-Grace. But then Caroline debuted .  . .

At first I thought she looked too similar to Kirsten. But in the end it was the hair--those beautiful Goldilock curls--that won me over. On the day she was scheduled to arrive, my daughter and I watched as our mailman walk up to the door with that telltale box from American Girl. When Abby excitedly opened the door, the mailman even said, "Oh how exciting!" Actually, he's delivered several boxes from American Girl to our house and probably thinks we need to stop. And we probably do . . .

But Caroline is here to stay and she is lovely. When I removed her hairnet and shook those curls loose, Abby sighed. "So pretty," she said, "can I play with her?" To which I replied, "Heavens no! Look at those curls, we can't mess them up." She started to complain and then I reminded her that she has her own dolls to play with. Dolls with straight hair.

So Caroline got right to work and is wearing a newly listed silk dress in my shop. I think it would be so much fun to design a Goldilocks dress for her or something Clara would wear in The Nutcracker. Maybe for Halloween . . .
