Halloween Posies

Every year my kids and I are invited to a Witch's Tea, hosted by Cody's aunt "Witch Nettie." Since there so many little girls who attend this party, I thought I'd use up some of my Halloween fat quarters and make posie barretts for all of them. They were so easy to make, I now need a bunch of little girls who need Christmas posies for their hair. Because now that my Halloween projects are over, it's time to start thinking about Christmas, isn't it?

The posie works equally well as a pin--I wore mine pinned to my cardigan. The pattern is published by www.figtreequilts.com and is titled "Posie FTQ #711." I definitely think it's a pattern I'll use over and over.

After all, a girl can never have too many holiday-themed posie barretts.

Making Adjustments

So it's been a year since I started this blog. I gave up on it for awhile, but I'm ready to start up again. It's not that I imagine a ton of people checking out what I've made (or even caring, really), but I love to read sewing blogs myself--it's a slight addiction--and so I want to keep one going for myself.

Hey Nonny

I'm making a somewhat audacious assumption that anyone checks this blog anymore, but just in case anyone does, I have some news. I'll be writing once a week for a brand new blog called "Hey Nonny"--you can check it out here: www.hey-nonny.com

I'll still write a little about fun stuff to sew, but "Hey Nonny" is going to offer a broader range of interests and perspectives. So read it--it will be fun.

The Hallelujah Dress

This dress is called "The Hallelujah Dress" for two reasons:

1- While I was sewing it, I listened to k.d. Lang's version of "Hallelujah" over and over and over again. It's a very pretty song, and it made me think about the fate of King David. In fact, I thought so much about King David, that I didn't focus on my seams, and so the seams in this dress stink.

2- When I finished this dress, I shouted "Hallelujah! It's done!" because I did not have fun with this pattern or this fabric. In fact, this dress really bugs me.

It's one of those patterns that work on paper, but not in real life with real pins or fingers or sewing machines. I had a huge amount of trouble with the invisible zipper and the curved seams on the yoke. But oh well, at least it's finished.
